APA SCD Call for Mentorship
If you have been wanting to be a mentor, now is the perfect time! We believe that the SCD Division Mentorship Program will help prepare and support upcoming planners as they navigate these formidable years. We all know that a strong support network leads to confident, successful individuals who have a meaningful impact in their communities and the planning field at large. Mentors who step into these leadership roles will also strengthen the foundation of the SCD Division so we can continue to make a positive impact in the world we live in. I.e. Please apply because your role is vital! Please submit your application by 5:00 pm on July 23, 2021.
Act Now To Support Bill H.R 1863 - The Public School Green Rooftop Program
Exciting news! Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) with congresswoman Nydia Velázquezand is leading a campaign to pass a bill on the Public School Green Rooftop Program. If passed, the bill will allocate federal funding to putting green roofs on schools. SCD supports this initiative and invites you to express your support for the proposed bill. Fill out the 2-minute, pre-filled online form to send a message to your congressional representative on why this program fits perfectly within President Biden’s American Jobs Plan. Please share this information with your friends and colleagues to get the word out!
Adaptation Co-Creation Webinar 6: Visualizing Change
View the SCD and American Society of Adaptation Professionals (ASAP) from last Tuesday as they co-hosted a Co-Creation Webinar. We learned about Hazen & Sawyer's novel approach to flood water visualization with Boston Water & Sewer Commission (BWSC) and Kim Lundgren Associates' approach to bringing the planning process to life through its Dashboard and other tools which earned the firm an SCD Excellence in Sustainability Award this year. APA Sustainability and Resilience Series
SCD is starting a new APA Sustainability and Resilience Series! APA’s Divisions are working hard to create a two year-long, inter-disciplinary series of virtual learning sessions on sustainability and resilience topics for planners. Sessions will be offered for planners new to the material as well as for those with moderate or advanced involvement in sustainability or resilience planning. All sessions will furnish AICP CM credit live AND on demand. Communities have been making strides to improve their environment and quality of life of their residents under the Sustainable States Network by affecting positive changes in climate, clean energy and sustainability.
Green Communities Program
The Green Communities Program is a voluntary certification program that enables local governments to reduce their environmental footprint. Local governments are encouraged to apply to be certified to attain one of the four certification levels.

Community Development Program Administrator - Independence, MO is seeking a candidate to administer, organize, implement, and monitor the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME) programs to ensure funds are used in compliance with grant requirements and that the City is in compliance with federal law.
Community Development Internship - The Bronx, NY Community District Four, the Capital District, is looking for a graduate planning student to assist in the creation of the Community Board Four Master Plan for the district. The plan would align with the Board's goals and objectives related to housing and land use, transportation, urban design, workforce development, open space and recreation, health and wellness and youth and education.
Community Development Intern - The Lake County Ohio Commissioners and the Department of Planning and Community Development (PCD) are seeking a part-time intern to assist in various duties with regards to Federal Grants and Community Development. Under direction, performs a wide variety of tasks for the PCD Director and Assistant Director. Responsibilities include: assisting senior personnel with administering Lake County, Ohio's annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) entitlement, HOME entitlement and other grants deemed appropriate for County operations.
